Photos from Fossil Park, Sylvania, Ohio

Photos taken June 26, 2012.
This is the main collecting area within the park.
Collecting at the park yielded some nice specimens: brachipods, gastropods, and trilobites.  There was plenty of nice material to collect.
Found some nice brachiopods…
Found some gastropods and even some corals.

It took awhile but eventually found some trilobite pieces: tails from phacop rana sp. and even a head.

I have been considering taking my son to Sylvania. You found some nice fossils. We went to Caesar's Creek for fossil hunting last year. Do you know how Sylvania compares? Would be a drive for us, so just wanted to get some idea.

I've not been the Caesar's Creek yet.
I imagine Caesar's Creek is nicer. The quarry company that operates Sylvania didn't seem to have brought new material in a while when I visited the site last year. There area alot of restrictions at the Sylvania... no hammers, chisels. I live 4 hrs away and I would definitely go back if new load of fossil rocks was brought in.
